Although photography began in monotone, many still express a preference for "black and white" photography.  To be sure, the absence of color forces attention to shapes and tone, and the same image without color becomes a different one than with, even if originally taken as such.  Color photography has its own place, and appeals to different aesthetics and senses.  Although only relatively recently has color photography become "accepted" as part of the fine art tradition of photography, the technology has been around in one form or another for a surprisingly long time.  To view the galleries, click on Black and White Gallery (or the Black and White image) or Color Gallery (or the Color Image).
